FAQs

Why should I choose Hidden Gems Travel Limited?

Hidden Gems Travel Limited is registered with the Hong Kong Government’s Travel Agents Registry as a Licensed Travel Agent (No. 354501). We are also a member of the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong (TICHK)—the only recognized body for tourist guide accreditation in Hong Kong.

We connect people and cultures, and are dedicated to creating experiences for travelers that are memorable for life! Our tours are designed to uncover lesser-seen parts of Hong Kong in travel books and share with you many personal stories by our passionate guides. All our experiences are 100% authentic and can be 100% personalized.

We have also worked with a wide range of corporate clients like Amazon Explore and the Chinese University of Hong Kong since our inception in 2020.

What is the difference between you and a Big Bus Tour?

A Big Bus Tour may give you general geography and layout of the city. It is also a great way of traveling between points of interest without worrying about getting lost on public transport. However, we offer something more than a Big Bus tour can do! Our tours are conversations that allow you to discover a city and learn about life from a local. We will show you the ‘real’ Hong Kong, will discover the hidden gems with you, will explain our culture, and will have you try the food the real locals enjoy. We believe in tours with eye contact, feeling relaxed, and not feel embarrassed to ask questions. Take a tour with us and let us introduce you to places that the Big Bus tour will not take you to!

Do you have private tours?

All tours listed on our website are private. We also work with corporate and educational organizations to design, research, and host tours on various themes and topics. Contact us for more information.

Are your tours children-friendly?

All of our Hong Kong tours are children-friendly. Children aged 3 years and under are free of charge on our tours.

What language are the tours conducted in?

Our tours are conducted in English. However, our guides are fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin as well. Connect us for the arrangement.

If I have dietary restrictions, can I still join the food tours?

If you have dietary restrictions, please contact us before booking the tour so that we can advise you on how suitable or unsuitable our food tour is. We can also design something for you specifically which contains some foodie elements and meet your dietary requirements.

What should I wear or bring for the tours? Are your tours only for the good-health?

Comfortable shoes and clothing are recommended for our tours as there will be some walking and standing. Summer in Hong Kong can be very hot and unpredictable, you may also need some water and an umbrella. We also suggest you bring some cash for small purchases (snacks and souvenirs) and your camera to save you memories.

All of our tours are designed at a leisurely pace, so there would not be any problems with the amount of walking involved as long as you are in reasonable health. If you have health or mobility issues, you should contact us beforehand.

How do I pay for the tours?

You can book online securely with a credit card or with your personal PayPal account. We require full payment when you book our tours.

I have booked a tour, what’s next?

After booking a tour on our website, you will receive an automated confirmation email. Then, you will receive a reminder email with your tour details, directions to the meeting point (if applicable), what to wear and bring (if applicable), as well as details of your guide a day prior to your tour.

What if I am late for the tour?

We advise everyone to arrive on time. The guide will generally wait for 5 minutes before they start the tour. Please call or WhatsApp +852 6881 8507 if you shall be late for more than 5 minutes.

Does the tour end at the same place as it starts?

As the starting and ending points of our tours vary, please check the specific information of the tour.

Once the tour is finished, our guides can give you directions back to your hotel or to any other location that you would like to visit next. Pick-up and drop-off services are available upon request. We suggest you carry cards with your hotel name and address as this will make it easier to take a taxi.

Do I need to tip the tour guide?

It is common in Hong Kong to tip if you feel comfortable and think that the guide has provided a good service. Whilst our guides greatly appreciate gratuities, they will NEVER ask for them.

Is Hong Kong safe to walk around?

Hong Kong is one of the safest cities in the world. Generally speaking, carrying an expensive camera or wearing some expensive jewelry will not increase the chances of being robbed! Hong Kong is still very safe even if you are outside at night time on your own. That said, you still have to be aware of pickpockets on crowded trains and in busy markets.

Do you accept last-minute bookings?

If you have a last-minute booking request for same-day tours, please contact us directly via email at info@hkhiddengems.com with the subject [Same day booking request for “TOUR NAME”]. To play safe, we suggest you WhatsApp us the same message at +852 6881 8507. We shall be able to get back to you ASAP.

What is the cancellation policy for adverse weather conditions?

Hong Kong has a sub-tropical climate and is prone to Typhoons, especially during the summer months. We run our tours through rain or shine unless it is physically unsafe for us to do so. In Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Observatory has Typhoon and Rainstorm Signals to let us know whether it is not safe to be outdoors. If there is a typhoon or extreme rain, we will follow the advice of the Hong Kong Observatory. We will announce it on our social media platform accordingly.

All tours will still run at Typhoon Signals 1 and 3 and under Amber rainstorm warnings.

All tours will be cancelled if the Hong Kong Observatory announces either one of the following cases. (1) The Red or Black Rainstorm Signal is hoisted. (2) The Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal: T8, T9, or T10 is hoisted.

 If we have to cancel the tour due to adverse weather conditions, we will contact you by phone (if in vain, we will send an SMS or email) no later than 2 hours before the tour. In such cases, we will reschedule your tour or offer a full refund.

What is your cancellation policy and refund procedure?

All cancellations must be initiated by contacting us at info@hkhiddengems.com.

No cancellation fee will be charged if cancellation is made at least 7 days (calculated from your confirmed event start time and date) in advance of the tour;

50% of the tour fee will be charged if cancellation is made between 4 and 6 days before the tour;

70% of the tour fee will be charged if cancellation is made within 3 days before the tour;

100% of the tour fee will be charged If cancellation is made within 1 day before the tour.

Refunds will be sent back to the original payment method used in making the booking and will be processed within 7 – 10 business days. However, posting times may differ depending upon the service agreement with your credit card provider.
